UES Progressives Hosts First-of-its-kind City Council Debate

The debate is aimed to break with routine format of forums and give candidates a chance to differentiate from one another in a progressive field

New York, NY, March 31, 2021 – UES Progressives, a chapter of NYPAN and Our Revolution in the Upper East Side of Manhattan, is hosting a first-of-its-kind debate for the 2021 NYC Democratic primary, 7 PM on April 7, 2021. In this debate, city council district 5 candidates will face a two-part question and answer section followed by a section where candidates get to ask one question of another candidate directly.

UES Progressives’ discourages candidates from reading prepared written responses to questions. In section one, each candidate will be asked the same question. Candidates may then be asked a follow up question to dig deeper into their initial responses or to respond to the words of another candidate

During section two, each candidate will have 30 seconds to ask any other candidate on the stage one question, after which, the respondent will offer a one-minute response. There are no limitations given to topics of questions asked by candidates to one another.

UES Progressives hopes that this format gives candidates a chance to differentiate from one another. They also hope to break from the routine format of forums where each candidate reads prepared written responses.
